I need something a little more bare bones, which I think I've found in YWriter.

I'm still playing around with My Story, but I'm not sure it's for me..

I think the overall problem is I'm not much of an outline person. I take notes and have pages and posterboards of characters and (sometimes) scenes...but I just tend to write as I go and see what happens. I know the story in my head...why do I need it put down in some computer program? Heck, it's enough work just to write the dang book in the first place lol ;)

@T -- yes, definitely...we don't need "traditional" jobs to be happy and support our children. Seems obvious in a way, but I found it helpful. In my case, the genre in question is Mystery.

So, I learned who was writing what, who was publishing what, what kinds of contests or awards existed (for published and aspiring writers), what organizations existed... and so on. I was also involved with two book clubs.

This was all very helpful as I worked on my manuscript.

I got a book contract realtively quickly - within four months (and 20 query letters).

Now, I just have to wait a few more weeks and I'll see my first novel in a bookstore somewhere and that will be so cool & so exciting!

Cheers, Jill
www.jilledmondson.blogspot.comJillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05152599507268946811noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-153744575087369817.post-42717315066110962382009-10-02T11:29:36.479-05:002009-10-02T11:29:36.479-05:00I'm a taurus too! And for most of January you're itching to do something different, as long as you still have enough cash to keep you in your favourite luxuries. Being expected to take sides in February could mean you end up flattering both ends of a fearsome dispute.
